Outside the Lines, UChicago’s fine arts club, offered a drawing fundamentals workshop to college and graduate students this past fall quarter as part of its weekly drawing sessions program. The workshop was held at the Southside Hub of Production and taught by professional Chicago-based artist Sara Holwerda, who teaches art classes at the Hyde Park Art Center, the neighborhood’s community art space. Each quarter, in addition to its standard weekly figure drawing classes, Outside the Lines offers one special fine arts event to the campus community: whether a workshop or a critique, the event is always led by a local professional artist. Outside the Lines aims to provide UChicago students with a free and easily accessible weekly opportunity to engage with their artistic side and shake off some academic stress. Materials are always provided free of charge.
